Is there anyway to download the Unreal Engine 4.27 on a USB? So I can install it on a desktop without internet access?
Hey @chunter281 !
Unfortunately, Unreal Engine doesn’t have an offline installer for customers to use. To install Unreal Engine, you must first download and install the Epic Games Launcher, or use the option of building from source. A base .exe file just does not exist, unfortunately.
Hope that at least gives you a path forward!
^This^ is true, but its not the whole story. As its easy to just copy Unreal between machines even if the target PC is air-gapped. But the catch is, you need a working UE install, or ask someone to share it. Then its just a case of copying over the engine folder. That’s about it. However, if you’re planning to run UE full-time off a USB, expect more crashes / slower performance obviously.
Additionally… If the PC/ Laptop is brand new you may require prerequisites first (think Dot-net installers). But you can just use Sys-internals to find missing windows system DLL’s if necessary (there’s usually only a few). If you’re not good at getting around windows, you may also need to set file associations. But this is strictly optional. As you can just launch the editor every time from a desktop shortcut, and then open projects up from inside the editor from that point on.
Can confirm this works on all versions of UE4 / UE5 so far. Air-gapped PC’s are the only way to escape Microsoft-Windows surveillance-capitalism telemetry. With Microsoft’s AI PC Copilot Recall feature, windows surveillance is now only going to get much worse.
