Bit of a random question, but I’m curious—has anyone tried using TikTok to post their Unreal Engine projects?
I’ve mostly stuck to the usual platforms (ArtStation, YouTube, Twitter), but I keep seeing people mention how TikTok has crazy reach, even for game dev stuff. I’m wondering if it’s worth the time or if it’s just better suited for more “mainstream” content.
I’m working on a UE5 environment project and thought about posting some short clips or lighting breakdowns, but I have no clue if that kind of content does well there. Anyone here actually using it? If so, what kind of posts worked for you—or did it just flop?
Would love to hear how it went if you’ve tried it, or even if you’re just thinking about testing it out.
Still curious about this—has anyone here actually tried posting Unreal Engine content on TikTok?
I’ve been thinking about experimenting with short clips from my UE5 environment project, maybe some lighting or level design breakdowns. Just not sure if that kind of stuff catches on, or if TikTok is more for trending/funny content. Would love to know what’s worked (or not worked) for others.
Also came across something interesting recently—there’s an alternate version of TikTok called TikTok 18 that’s geared more toward adult content. Not exactly for game dev, but it shows how diverse the platform’s spin-offs are getting. Here’s a site where I found more about it.
TikTok can actually work pretty well for Unreal Engine projects, especially if the content is short, visually striking, and easy to understand at a glance. Things like quick environment flythroughs, dramatic lighting changes, asset breakdowns, or even short behind-the-scenes clips tend to perform better because TikTok’s audience is used to fast, eye-catching content.
Thanks for the insights shared here, this clears up a lot.
One thing I’m realizing is that TikTok seems more about quick visual impact, while platforms like YouTube still work better for longer breakdowns or step-by-step explanations. I’ve actually relied on YouTube a lot for Unreal Engine learning, and sometimes even used YouTube mod APKs just to watch UE tutorials without ads or distractions. I came across YTModz while exploring those options, and it made long dev videos easier to follow, especially when hopping between different creators.
So I’m thinking TikTok might be good for grabbing attention with short UE5 clips, and YouTube can handle the deeper technical side. Might try using both and see which one actually brings meaningful engagement. Appreciate everyone who chimed in — definitely helped shape how I’ll approach this.
There’s a video by the Tether Geist dev team that goes over the metrics of what kinds of videos were effective. In their case, Youtube Shorts had very little to no effect on sales.
