Another Blender - UE import texture issue

Hello there,

pretty new to UE, did spend my whole day watching tutorials and lessons on workflow to exporting Blender to UE. I have UE7, all lessons I saw says to use .FBX and then re node all materials separately.

I can’t even see the node graph editor on my imported textures but even stranger, some parts of the mesh got their texture perfectly connected and others blanks .. when I click on the material I want to correct textures from, I just get the Material Instance and no graph, am lost and exhausted.

I know .FBX doesn’t “ see “ the complex node forest when exporting but … why isn’t there a plug and play exporter from the most popular 3D program Blender to UE …

Many thanks for your help

Can’t for the life of me get me out of this trap ;(

In 5.7 Unreal will create material instance for FBX import. There is a bug where the option to create material is still shown in the UI but will not do anything.

  1. are the are the texture missing, from the material, imported in the content folder of UE. If they are and they are you should able to assigning textures, or set colors in the material instance.

  1. If the textures are not imported that can also be something between the export from blender and import in UE.

Alternatively you can try to export to gltf/glb and import in UE using that format.

Also you can try to disable interchange for FBX, typing Interchange.FeatureFlags.Import.FBX False in the command line. That will give you a material you can edit the graph from when you import. I doubt that will help you much, editing material is there is you want to do something unusual with the material on your model. If you just want to display some base color or texture, without adding fancy effects, you should be able to work without editing the graph.
