Animations not working on certain meshes?

I’m so confused right now. I have a Metahuman in my UE5 project, and the facial animations work fine for it. But after editing the face mesh in Blender, the animations no longer seem to do anything.

For the record, I’m importing the edited mesh as a new asset, rather than reimporting the original (I tried to do that but it just crashes).

It should work fine, since it uses the same skeleton and I didn’t affect the armature at all. Any ideas?

Update: I created a new test animation in Blender and that works fine. I think it’s just the Metahuman control rig that doesn’t work with the new mesh.

How could I go about making the control rig work with it? Is it just a bug?
