Animation stops for Skeletal Mesh LOD1 and above.

Has anyone been able to create skeletal mesh LODs that play animations?

I have a simple Animation BP which rotates an aircraft propeller using a TransformModifyBone node. When I create LOD’s for the skeletal mesh the animation stops playing at LOD’s other than 0. There is a setting on the node for “LOD Threshold” which defaults to “-1”. Changing this to something rational like 3 has no effect. I have the skeletal mesh “Enable Update Rate Optimizations” unchecked.
