Animation Sound Notifiers not playing

I followed a video tutorial for adding notifiers within an animation blueprint. Everything works fine within the animation blueprint. If I hit play and watch it I can see particle systems and hear sound samples I’m triggering. I hit ‘save’ just like in the video and when I return to my editor and hit play there I see the animation but no particles and/or sounds. Is there something I’m missing here? Thanks for any help!

ps ‘Should Do Animation Notifiers’ is checked in my editor and the animation is set on my character details panel

Upon further investigation I realized that my sound notifiers weren’t working because I was sending a float variable into an ‘Evaluate’ object to run through the frames manually through the blueprints rather than just triggering the animations. As shown in the image below.
