Animation and Motion Matching

I don’t know if it’s better to combine both of my questions in one post, so if someone thinks so, let me know and I will do that, but for now:

  1. Motion Matching looks amazing and powerful, but is there any reason not to use every animation tool that we have at our disposal, rather than replacing new tools with old tools?

Some of the demos that I have seen make it sound like Motion Matching is a replacement for Blend Spaces. Forgive me if that’s not the correct name of the tool. I am relatively new to really trying to dive into Unreal for development.

  1. Is Motion Matching only going to be useful for character movement? Is it possible, or will it be possible to apply motion matching to combat animations or better, compare trajectories of separate animated actors that are both using Motion Matching, and interacting with one another?
