animating groom hair

Animating groom hair seems quite…wild and unreliable.

Does someone succesfully use physics for long hair, with braids for example? I always end up with bouncy hair and some collision problems.

As an alternative I checked how to make geometry cache to animate the hair outside of unreal. Although I found a solution to animate hair curves in blender, i struggle with the export.
