That is a strange error but have you tried checking the permissions on your .bash_profile. Maybe you have executable permission for other disabled though not sure if that’s the issue. You could try setting full access for user, group other i.e. chmod 777 ~/.bash_profile just to see if that gets past the error and then switch it back afterwards.
