Hi there @AnubhaBanerjee,
Hope you’re well and having a wonderful week so far
Snow globes are just the cutest form of a decoration in my opinion. This project demonstrates that belief so well - it’s beautiful and rather magical. Wonderfully done!
Thank you! You made my day and today is the first day of the year
Greetings @AnubhaBanerjee; I hope you’re doing well and having a wonderful New Year’s Day! Thank you for sharing your lovely free Snow Globe Simulator app with us in the forums!
Even made as a hobby, you included an incredible amount of detail and items to interact with within the simulator. I’m curious: how long did it take to develop the simulator?
Thanks a lot @Zezkaii I started this about an year ago but did not work on it regularly but with month of gaps in between and mostly on weekends. What took most time was the snow particles simulation, rest of it was quick. On the next more ambitious hobby project I am trying to be more regular with doing at least one thing on it every Sunday
Glad I could help your year to start off strong! I look forward to seeing what this years worth of projects holds.
The pleasure is all mine, and thank you for clarifying the time frame!
I’m curious. Can you tell us about your more ambitious next project or give us any hints?
Sure, the new project is a bit different, previous to snow globe was an android app too: ([https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.YourCompany.BallerinaBox3&pcampaignid=web_share](https://ballerina app))
The new one has been ongoing project for years- first version used OpenGL directly, then ported it to Unreal, The world is created from real world map data, you can see the Screenshots in unreal at bottom of this page:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/3D-mapland
Plan is to have a social element too where you can walk around anywhere in the world along with co-op or online people. And the walking part will be where it will be really different where you can actually walk in place (using mobile sensors) and your character will walk in game. So it will be an indoor option to exercise while bonding with people, maybe walking and chatting with them -well that’s the rough plan
Thank you for following up with me. The Ballerina Music Box turned out fantastic! I also noticed it’s the third iteration in the line of Ballerina Music Boxes you have developed; I imagine you’re pretty adept at designing them now.
Your latest project could be pretty fun, especially for people who own VR machines! Unless- Is this strictly a mobile development venture?
Thanks a lot. There are stories behind all 3 versions of the ballerina app, First one I made as I had ordered a real ballerina music box for my mother’s birthday but order got cancelled and such a box was not available so made an app in unreal.
Second ballerina box was made in Godot to explore that engine.
And third one had another interesting story- a girl who had tried the first ballerina app mailed me in Spanish saying that app was not that good and they would like a music box like in movie Ballerina(2016), and on a whim I decided to make it. I even found exact same music box model on art station and the creator gave me permission to use it. I conversed using google translate with the Spanish girl while making the app and she told she was a baker in her twenties from Latin America (in later mails said she had lied and was a 11 year old kid who dreamt of being a ballet dancer). But well, that made for an interesting app and story.
Sorry I rambled off with stories of ballerinas
And to come to the next project, no it isn’t targeted for VR… the app will run on computer and the mobile phone (in pocket of the user) will act as sensor giving movement data, the user will need a game controller to rotate the camera, play etc. but for moving they will have to walk or run in place. I have the base working, need to refine it, make the world more interesting and add the game mechanics. Its a long term project and making it as a hobby project will make it longer term (I work as a game programmer in a full time day job which is separate from these projects).
I am so glad I noticed that there were three separate iterations of your Ballerina Music Boxes; I would have never known about their lore, which is interesting to know. Such unique stories behind each one helped shape the kind of developer you are today! That’s incredible! Thank you for sharing.
Kudos on the fantastic job you did with this project, and thank you again so much for sharing your story and other creations with us. I look forward to seeing more from you, hopefully soon, @AnubhaBanerjee!
