Hi I haven’t posted in a while but I’m finally working on a game again,
I think I’ll call it Ancient Sky, It will be an RPG.
Its using some marketplace assets and some original assets so far.
My main inspirations are Skies of Arcadia (the flying ships etc) , Dark Souls and the Gauntlet series. (Gauntlet Legends, Dark Legacy)
I like how bright and colorful it is!
Are you planning to have huge playable map where player character can move around and also pilot ship or there will be some kind of overworld map and ship will only be used to move between playable locations (exactly like it works in Skies of Arcadia)?
I am planning a bit of both right now, with full scale ship flying levels with foliage and such optimized for less detail/bigger scale (but still able to walk around the ships, and maybe a few points of interest), and then technically smaller walking levels, but still able to fly the ships from discoverable waypoint to waypoint. These smaller “adventure field” type levels being the primary locations containing dungeons.
I’m trying to implement TrueSky into the flying-focused levels, and I found that performance isn’t sufficient when adding both TrueSky clouds and even optimized LODs on the detailed foliage. But I think this might be a good solution, I like the idea of flying around an adventure field after ship-combat and exploration levels. I’ll probably tie them together with a world map of some sort as well.
Thank you for checking it out!
Have a few more screenshots, just starting to texture one of the player ships, and the model isn’t final yet also.
Working on these mooring towers, which act a bit like the Sheikah Towers from Breath of the Wild. Unlock them on the ground by defeating the enemies guarding them, and raise your flag. Then you can dock your airship and fast travel to them.
