Please let me now what you think!!
Looks like the beginning scene to an amazing movie! The helmet reflection and light rays are just stunning. Do you plan on making this into a shortfilm?
The helmet is way too shiny…the sand ripples are what you get at a beach because of tidal water over the sand - this is a desert so it is smoother. And the helmet looks like it has fallen from a height as the cut into the sand is too linear. I cannot see sand beyond the surface of helmet in nosepiece area where I would see sand and the light would bounce inside the helmet too making it lighter.
Thanks!! I don’t plan on making a short film but now that you mention it… maybe I will!
I didn’t make it to be perfect… it was just something to get away from the game I’m working on…
Also what would you suggest to do for the linear line for the helmet?
To be frank, the reason you make it is superfluous. You made it and asked for what we think. We as in everybody or anybody. Hopefully what I said has given you some ways to improve the image or to at least consider some environment factors that affect an image. If I wanted to get away from ‘the game I’m working on’ I would be working on another project as the other user suggested, a small short film. But this idea initially could have been a simple sketch and an arrow to indicate the camera track move. Maybe start to storyboard out the idea for the short film before you go anywhere near a computer. Then work up assets, architecture, environment etc.
Base of helmet - this is where thinking about the environment you create in is important. And the effect of weather on that environment. I get it, it is a ‘galaxy far, far away’ but everything has its root on the dynamics and physics of planet earth. How was you geography at school as it is all important. Remember studying erosion and the effects of wind?. Remember how dunes in a desert are created? It is due to the effects of wind. Around the base of the helmet will be evidence of this (I am assuming it has been sitting there for some time). Evidence of small sand slopes creeping up around the edges, determined by wind direction. Is there a sandstorm in progress? Would add to the atmosphere of the image - remember the start of Mandalorian? A local displacement around helmet could take care of it.
Good luck in your future choices and the short film if you decide to pursue it further.
Thanks for replying! Like I said, I don’t think I want to make a short film because im a lot better at making games. And I don’t have too too much experience with UE5/4. But I get what you said about realism. To me, I don’t go for realism, but for coolness.
