First & foremost, I’m not a game designer in anyway and using UE4 is just a hobby, so I’m basically a newbie. Secondly, I’m not trying to recreate Amnesia, but I want to create a character blueprint that holds a lantern light source AND physically opens doors. I already purchased the “Adventure Kit” packs “Physical Door” packs from the marketplace.
However, the first-person blueprints are so different that I don’t know how to integrate the door opening mechanics from the Physical Door pack into the Adventure Kit-Scary Game project or vice versa. Already tried looking at Youtube tutorials and this http://www.undeaddev.com/advanced-dd-doors-and-drawers/, but neither were helpful or complete. I’d appreciate any helpful input.
Making your charcter LOOK like hes holding the lantern, and opening the door is extensive. Adding animations is tough to explain over the forums. But that being said if you’d like to get a feel for Persona, the animation tool inside Unreal, Rakiz Farooq does a great tutorial series on how to add animations. I’d follow along with them in the third person template and get an understanding, and then apply that to your game.
As far as holding a lantern goes here: https://youtu.be/-xOoknUDGaE This is a tutorial for attaching to sockets.
If you’d like to interact with it in the world I can try to explain that.
As for the asset packs go, do they only open up as projects, not being able to just add to your current project?
Appreciate the reply AustinFnFordham.
The asset packs do open as their own projects, but I’m able to easily transfer all of the assets into my main project into their own folders under the “Content” folder. Ideally i’d like to use the Adventure Kit character as a base while adding the other mechanics to it rather than having to create my own animations. As it stands now with my main project I’d have to sacrifice one mechanic, the lantern-holding or the physical door & drawers.
Thanks for the response.
The asset packs open as their own projects, but I’m able to easily move all of the assets into my main project and they still function correctly. The problem is that I have to change the gamemode in the “World Settings” to use the Adventure Kit character or the Physical Door character. Ideally, I’d like to use the Adventure Kit character as a base and add the other mechanics to it since the character is already setup for holding a lantern and related animations.
