Always in vertex snapping mode?

Hey there,
I have a basic scene setup with some FBX’s imported. I’m trying to translate a light around using the arrow’s to move it in one direction.

When I start moving the light (or any object) vertices on nearby objects highlight blue and it seems to be snapping to a grid of sorts. Also I cannot move it past the imported objects and out into ‘space’ beyond them. Rotation is fine and scale is fine.

I have snapping OFF, though having it ON shows no difference that I can see. Changing the units within snapping settings does nothing.

I’m a Maya user of 15 years, but this is frustrating the hell outta me. I thought it might be a general scene scale issue, but I loaded the default scene and noticed that even with snapping OFF in that objects move in large increments in any direction. Is there a known way to completely disable snapping so objects move naturally like Maya/Max?

Any ideas?
Thanks
Markus

There are various sorts of snapping. Grid snapping != Vertex snapping, they are independent.
You can toggle grid snapping in viewport, but vertex snapping controlled by Vertex Snap toggle in Quick Settings menu

Hi Markus,

As zeOrb pointed out, there are different types of snapping that is available for use in the editor.

Below I’ve taken a screen shot and highlight the areas that various snapping is available.

In the quick settings (which sounds like your issue) if the vertex snapping is enabled it will give you blue highlighted vertexs to snap to.

In the top right this is the option to change the grid snap size along with the option to allow surface snapping so that the object will rotate and snap to various surfaces.

If you’re still having issues feel free to ask any other questions. I hope this helped though!
