Hi - I’m animating scripted deformations of a mesh in Maya using lattices, and exporting them via Alembics into Unreal. It’s all going fine and I can get material assignments working, but I would also like to do vertex painting in UE 5.3 but it’s not supported. Trying to figure out an alternative pipeline or process - perhaps convert the lattice deformations to blend shapes (ugly)?
To imagine the animation, think of a big squishy ball that you can grab with two manipulators. They might be grabbing anywhere, so the lattices work well for the pulling. We’d like to paint a texture change where the claws are grabbing.
