Along the right lines

Hello, Would be my first post on here so Hi!

This wouldnt be my first dab into creating a game, however it is my first go at 3D video games (Mostly have done 2D top down games).

Havent yet watched tutorials as of yet as i really like to just jump in with two feet. Seven hours in and i have this to show, It isnt much but wanted to ask if i was going along the right direction in terms of creating a 3D level (Small house) and if anyone had any pointers/tips or just general feedback on how im going about it.

I’m using nothing but UE to build the level.

Like i said, Not much to it. But (if allowed) i will be just keeping a little record on here with my progress. Get to know the UE community abit more learn the tools and hopefully pass on my knowledge one day.

Look forward to your replies. Cheers

.

Welcome!!
Make sure to start learning a 3d program, because it’s not recommended to just use BSP brushes -> performance + flexibility  Also make sure to post more screenshots so that we have a better view of the building.

Hi .

Thanks for the reply, I’ve had some experience with 3DMax, I’m guessing the best way to go about this would be designing in a modular approach? having walls, roofs etc all done in 3dmax and using UE to construct what you want.

What i’ll do is re-build this using 3DMax assets and then re-post some screenshots.

Cheers

Hello again,

Could anyone explain to me whats going on here?

As you can see the textures are… stretched? Not sure if thats the word for what that is, I’ve set the Geometry alignment and it does fix it however when i save it just returns to the stretched look…

Secondly does anyone have any tips to stop terrain doing this, About to spend a few hours going through tutorials and learning just terrain tools as i know its a big part of 3D games and i didnt need to do it in 2D games so its new to me.

Thanks,

.

You have to UV map your mesh or when you use bps brushes, go into the details panel and choose another uv type
You have to use the flattening tool with a strenght of 1 -> then you should be abel to get rid of it
