Almost impossible to open some of the "Open World Demo" assets

I’m having big trouble opening assets from the kite Demo. I can take 2-3 minutes to open them in the editor.

I have 8 GB of RAM and a AMD x4 965 processor.

My configuration is not great at all, however I’d expect just opening a single asset would be faster. It also seems to be related to the unreal assets. I imported the sample trees from speedtree, all open almost instantly(and they have 3 LOD levels). Some of the kite tree demo trees though, just appear to freeze for long times when I try to open the assets.

Using 4.10.2 right now

Your problem does have to do with your computer, but your processor is likely not the problem, your graphics card is probably underpowered. To see which one you have on windows right click your background and select adjust screen resolution.

I kinda doubt that too. a gtx 760. It would be ironic to be able to handle quite big levels without problem, yet opening a single tree asset literally freezing the entire editor?

Those assets take a long time to open on everyone’s computers, depending on how much you’re trying to open you might not have enough RAM either.

That happens when you open large assets the first time.

yeah, kinda terrible right now, had to literally wait 5 minutes for a single tree…

Took my machine 45 minutes to load the Open World project the first time, and it’s no slouch. I believe the biggest time crunch is that most of the textures for the Kite Demo assets are 8k(!!!), which takes a huge amount of time to process/save into the DDC.

Ah, I get it now. I was kinda shocked because normal speedtree assets open almost instantly, but the kite demo ones take so long. The 8k Textures explain it though.

It’s true, it does take a long time on anyone’s machine. I felt the same way you did, and I am using an i7 2600k OC’d to 4.4Ghz.
Definitely RAM and CPU power play a part in crunching those numbers…

Looks like 8GB RAM is your bottle neck. UE4 makes huge demands on RAM to load these large levels.
