I’ve been using movie render queue to export 4k frames and several times today and yesterday a few minutes after I start the render process, all of my screens go black. I’m then forced to hard restart. I haven’t experienced any other issues with my 3080, so I’m wondering what the best way is to determine whether it’s my graphics card or whether something else might be going wrong? Thanks in advance.
It just happened again when I tried to export 4K frames on a completely different project. All I’m doing is trying to use the Movie Render Queue. It worked perfectly fine all week and then today, trying to render causes all of my screens to go black and the render does not complete. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I’m now getting these weird colored splotches that show up after I have Unreal open for a few hours. As soon as I restart Unreal, they go away.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
I figured my graphics card was going up or something, but I just find it odd that as soon as I restart Unreal, the issue goes away.

Heya, I had my screens start going black during renders too, and have managed to resolve it.
Here are a few things you can try; I did all three:

Do you have an autobackup programme like Backblaze running? Turn it off for the render, it’s probably causing bottlenecks.

Is your system overheating? My temps appeared all good, but the room does heat up significantly when rendering and a random spike may have been tripping it, so I opened the window just in case. A couple of degrees can make all the difference haha!

Try stopping all other unnecessary processes on your PC. In particular, shrink your UE viewport right down before rendering, and position it so that it’ll be hidden behind the render preview, to save your GPU and extra unnecessary work, just in case.
The black screen crashes were too random for me to replicate and test all of this, but I’m 99% sure Backblaze was the problem in my case; I’m pretty confident I’d had it turned off previously when I rendered without issue too.
I’m not sure about the speckling though, it might actually lead more towards GPU overheating issues in your case though, if its something that gets worse over time. Make sure drivers are up to date and that temps are good.
Thanks for the response! I was not running BackBlaze or any other backup programs. I also made sure that all other processes were closed prior to initiating the render.
I do not think the system was overheating as it normally yells at me when it does, but next time it occurs I will check on the temperatures like you said.
I did close the viewport prior to rendering and made sure that real time mode is off to ensure minimal extra load on the GPU.

Again today, I’m unable to use Movie Render Queue. As soon as I start the remote render, it starts to load and then all of my monitors go black and my pc restarts. Inspecting Event Viewer, it shows Event ID 41, “Kernel-Power”.
My PC is not overheating at all, it is not even hot. I checked both my Windows and NVIDIA drivers and both are up to date.
I’m currently running version 5.0.3 of the engine.
This essentially makes it so I cannot use Movie Render Queue at all. Any ideas for additional troubleshooting or any potential workarounds?
