All models imported from FAB are showing up as blank without any textures on Unreal Engine 5.8.3

No matter which model I choose to import from the FAB marketplace, I always have to end up with it being a blank white model without any textures whatsoever and it is really frustrating. What is going on with Unreal Engine 5 and FAB? This is quite an annoying issue, as no matter if you purchase or try free models from the FAB marketplace, and import it into Unreal Engine either by adding directly to project or downloading FBX and importing manually, you will always end up with a disappointing result. I don’t know how to fix it and I’ve tried looking for solutions all over the place, but nothing seems to work and nothing focuses directly on this pressing issue. You would think that when you buy models on FAB that they would work properly and you should not have to faff around endlessly just to get them to show up properly as advertised on FAB.

As a game developer I am sure nobody wants to spend endless number of hours trying to fix this darn issue when it shouldn’t be an issue in the first place, as when importing models they should come ready and textured, so that you can move on smoothly to the process of developing a bloody game without having to faff around and waste valuable time on fixing your game engine.

Here are the listed steps of 2 separate examples to reproduce the exact same issue:

Step 1 find any model and click add to project

Step 2 open the FAB folder to see your model and you will see all material instances are blank

Step 3 drag and drop any of the 3D model assets and they will show up as blank (non-textured)

Here is another example displayed when trying to import FBX manually:

Step 1

Step 2 import the model

Step 3 look at the models and materials in the FAB folder

Step 4 drag and drop any of the 3D models into your world

The first one is FBX only, so you will probably have to import the textures manually.

The second is also engine compatible. You should be able to add it directly from the launcher to your project ( or install it directly from FAB ).

I tested both packs on a fresh 5.8.3 install, I can confirm as well that the first one is just the FBX, textures are missing from the pack, or unpacked somewhere else.

As for the second one, adding it directly via engine instead of doing the manual export did work on my end. Once added to your library, the pack should show up under your FAB listings in the launcher:

From there, just click on “Add to Project”, select your target, and once the process it’s completed, the contents should be available inside that project:

Thanks for testing it out and I am not sure why I don’t seem to be able to see an option that says “add to my project” anywhere not even on the Epic Games launcher or my library for Unreal Engine.

I can only see download or create a new project to be able to access this particular model on FAB.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. I didn’t know that when it is only FBX format, you don’t get the textures automatically come with the model for some reason. As for the second one, I am still trying to figure out how to add it to my project as the only two options I have are either to download it or to create an entirely new project to access the model on FAB.
