Aligning two files with control points

Hello,

I am trying to make a 3D model of an artefact using reality capture.

My method for doing this is taking photos of two sides of the object, aligning each side first, creating a preview mesh, creating a mask etc and then aligning both together.
This has worked for one of my objects.

However, for another object the photos of both sides did not align properly to begin with. So, I have been using control points to make them align and this has been successful. I have managed to make new components that have all of the cams aligned.

Now, I want to align both sides together. However, whenever I try to do this, I lose the alignment created by the control points and the points split again into several mis-aligned components. I have exported the control points as csv files for both sides of the object, but this didn’t change anything.

Any advice on how to consolidate/set/finalise the properly aligned point cloud so that it can be merged with another point cloud that also has control points?

Thanks in advance! Let me know if you need anymore details

Hi @GGThornhill
Is it possible that your control points have the same names in both components (and they are not the same points)?
If so, try to rename the names.
Also, it depends what kind of artefact are you scanning… If it is too narrow, there could be some issues to merge such components. Sometimes, you will need to do it in some 3rd party application, as if there is a weak overlap, then it won’t be possible to merge such parts. Or, you can use more shared control points to merge them together.
