Alembic import triangles count mismatch

hi, when I try to import abc file for ML deformer training from Maya, i get vertex and triangles count mismatch. Alembic file looks ok in maya and blender, and also in unreal when imported as static mesh. but when imported as geometry cache (as shown im ML deformer tutorial) I get the mismatch. also tried on simple t-shirt from marvelous, there is a mismatch. Any help please?
