Aiming/Throwing mechanism in a 2.5D sidescroller

I’ve been making a game similar to a game FEZ. I have made the camera and movement and now I want to make a throw mechanism. The problem is, I have watched a tutorials, asked an AI and other things to make it, but I’m new to this and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong or am I doing it in the correct method.

I want my character to throw on a direction where my mouse is aiming, but I couldn’t make it to every rotated angle my character/camera is facing(0°, 90°, 180°, 270°). It either throws on a fixed angle or throws it anywhere.

I’d appreciate any kind of advice, guide or steps.

In order to help you in a proper way, could you show me how are you rotating the player and the camera? It is important to determine how the game will calculate the angle based on the camera and cursor position.

It would be really useful if you can share a video of how it work in game, so I can replicate the scenario for testing.

In addition to knowing which axis you’re using for left and right on screen, how do you intend to aim? Using mouse cursor or gamepad/thumbstick?
