Opening the texture in the previous version and puting them again in the user library seems to help, but doing that with 1000 textures is a bit... yeah that is no fun.
Hi ,
By default, your User Library files are stored in the Twinmotion202X folder in Documents on your computer. If you copy the contents of the User Library folder at this location and paste them into the User Library file in the Twinmotion2023.1 folder in Documents, you should be able to easily transfer your entire User Library.

Hi ,
we got the user library on our server so all designers can make use of the same library. It is not a problem for Twinmotion to find this library. Most textures and objects are visable and ready to use in the 2023.1 version. But for example we made the complete RAL paint color set in 2019 and with this new version of TM these textures are not visable. So it looks like textures made in 2019 and before are not visable in this new version of TM. When we open a RAL color in the old version and save it as a new texture it is visable in the 2023.1 version.
It's the same for the objects/geometries in the User Library. I have a custom folder for them, with hunderds of assets organised in categoiers wich worked fine in TM2022.3. In TM2023.1 after I;ve changed the custom path for the user library to tha same folder, only few of them are visible in la User Library. It's a real mess. I hope there will be a solution, it will be a real pain in the a... to resave them in TM2023.1.
Well, yesterday I just did that, it took me a couple of hours to do that. Only my workflow was kind of different.
- I've opened TM 2022.2.3 and a TM 2023.1 at the same time, with the same folder set as the user library folder.
- I took the old assets that were missing from the 2023.1 library window and replaced them one by one (in TM2022.2.3) - since I have them categorised it's easier to folow the missing ones;
- after placing the asset in the scene, I've deleted the old saved asset, This saved me the trouble to rename the newly saved asset;
- I have saved the asset;
- atfer restarting TM2023.1 all the assets I've just saved in TM2022.2.3 appeared in the TM2023.1 library;
- No need to save the TN2022.2.3 file since I've used just to replace the assets in the library;
- I have noticed that the old assets had different background in the thumbnail, so it is easy to identify the old assets (TM2019)
For example, the Xray asset in this image is the old one:
After resaving in TM2022.2.3 it is looking like this (notice the background change):
Yeah, was a little bit of work on that, but after a while I've gained speed on doing that...😄
Hope this will help others...
Best regards
Thank you for your patience while we were away on break.
In Twinmotion 2023, we no longer support Twinmotion 2019 files due to large changes in the file structures between these two versions, so files saved to your User Library that were created in Twinmotion 2019 won't function correctly when trying to open them in Twinmotion 2023.
To convert Twinmotion 2019 content to 2023 content, you will need to open the User Library item and save it in an intermediate version of Twinmotion (version 2022.2.3 is recommended but other versions will also work). Once saved in the intermediate version, you should be able to convert it to Twinmotion 2023, which appears to be the process you have been doing.

Hello ,
Thank you for the follow-up and feedback.
We are currently working on the auto upgrading system for tmi items to avoid having to redo all files but if you encounter issues with some items, it is most likely those are from Twinmotion 2019 or earlier thus recreating and resaving those user library items in a 2022.2.3 version first will help to them convert them for 2023.1.
Please reference our release notes for details on the file format change:
https://www.twinmotion.com/docs/en-US/twinmotion-release-notes/twinmotion-2023.1-preview-1-release-notes/
Here is additional information on a proper workflow to save those items forward:
- Open Twinmotion 2022.2.3 and place all assets in your scene from your user library that you want to use in 2023.1.
- For objects simply drag and drop them from the library into the viewport
- For material/surfaces place a simple primitive object/shape to drag and drop the material onto. Repeat for as many materials as needed. Tip: Once your first primitive element is placed, select it and press the Shift key then click on directional arrow from the gizmo. This will create a copy and open the copy window to make additional copies.
- Once all your objects are placed you can save the Twinmotion file.
- Reopen the file in Twinmotion 2023.1 and save the library assets to your new user library.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Vincent B.
Thanks for working on an auto upgrade for the user library! I Understand it's a preview - however It's really important that user libraries can be brought over from previous versions - especially if it's a recent upgrade like 2022. Our office has been building our twinmotion library over years now ( we love the software ), but the expectation that one needs to load all user library assets into a new file, then re-save them all into back into folders ( if one has a large library ) is not a reasonable expectation for users of the software.
