After updating the game launcher when I log in I get a message saying :Admin privileges required. I do not give admin privileges for my computer. Is there a way around this?
Hey Frabill,
The Epic Launcher does require admin privileges. So you will need to have them granted on your account by someone who has the ability to do so. Each computer should have an account which you can give access to other accounts on that PC. Unfortunately, there is not a work around for this.

This puts your users at risk for a large number of security exploits. I share the original posters concern. Granting admin rights to a program that downloads and executes code from the web is not a good security practice.
Well the editor has to be able to read, write, and execute files. It needs admin rights. Anything that is downloaded from the launcher is more then likely checked by Epic Games, to make sure it’s of good quality and doesn’t contain anything malicious. Anything from the forum could potentially have something malicious but they won’t last long as they will be flagged, reported, and removed pretty quickly.
You can do all those things without admin rights. The launcher worked just fine before this change. Typically you only need admin if you are messing with system properties, which this launcher should not be doing.
I agree, I attend a school and getting the IT dept to do anything right is a pain. This requires them to have to come in and do this on every computer in the room for us to access the new update. We didn’t need admin rights for 4.9.2 just for the launcher to get installed on the PC. My question is why did you make this change now?
