After the recent update for ARK, the project I was working on is gone… They are starting me over… Any ideas?
I guess you edited files instead of making childs? Cause the update overwrites original Ark files to get it to the latest version. You might be lucky and find your old files here: \Epic Games\Launcher\Backup
But you should anyway set up a version control software like SVN or Git. Otherwise you are just begging for data loss.
There is a folder that they move all changed vanilla files to as a backup for everything they removed.
The real question though, are you making a TC mod or a normal mod?
TC Mods you edit core files where they are without moving them.
Normal mods you make your own folder in the mods section and move duplicates and children of the core files to edit rename and work on.
If you do a TC mod you need to make your own backups, if they haven’t fixed their TC mod system, as when they first introduced TC mods each update wiped clean all TC mod data.
Only if you do it wrong. You should make copies or childs. Besides a very few exeptions you can modify and replace almost all files within a Mod folder structure without losing work with any update. I am doing this like this for about 5-7 months now.
@Kenturrac TC Mods? Total Conversion? Replacing the entire core data of the game without remapping?
Well, when and why do you want to replace all of it? But yeah, a lot of it you can. And yes, I am talking about Total Conversions. I guess a more detailed example of what you want to do would be helpful to explain how to do it safely.
Pfft I don’t make TC mods, and have no intention to ever make them, and you’re not even talking to me, I’ve made mods since July, and have never lost anything from an update… You even IGNORED the part you copypasta’d about “if they haven’t fixed their TC mod system, as when they first introduced TC mods each update wiped clean all TC mod data.”
JBHatahaway is the one having issues, and I am trying to resolve their issues, and identify how they came into it.
Did you have a bad day, sir? You asked three questions and I tried to answer them.
You even mentioned me. If you don’t want an answer, don’t ask. And besides that, you were helping but shared wrong information. I just wanted to fix that.
I also can’t confirm that since I never experienced a wipe of TC mod data. So I guess they fixed it.
Anyway, I guess we both told him to look here: “\Epic Games\Launcher\Backup” and that he should use a version control software. Guess the thread got served.
I wish you both an A1 day!
