After downloading 5.1.1 as a new customer I get an error message - "Can't find xcode install for metal compiler....."

The answer is in the screen shot, i guess your configuration and set up requires xcode to be installed so download it and install it as it asks.

Looks like a mac? I believe installing XCode is the way to go for one though I use (and prefer) Visual Studio on windows. Free community version

I agree seems like a mac and xcode i believe is requried at least at initial install
