Affordable Landscapes 2

Throw some shallow water (i.e. puddles, or something that looks like it just rained) into that map and it’ll look great. =)

@SE_JonF, I will look into that. Thanks!

Update: Some of the areas on landscape 05 needed manual touch. The surface just couldn’t look right without hand painting so I’m doing that. Here’s a before and after comparison.

Now this looks all fantastic, but I’m afraid I am a newcomer and saw this here for the first time.
Can somebody explain, or is there a link to explanations, what this exactly is? Is this a replacement for the UE landscape system or is this a set of textures, or are there tools to create the landscape shapes? What about streaming levels, how does this work on the edges and the connection of two levels? A general “What’s what” so that those of us who don’t know this project can see if it’s something we could use.

This is a collection of terrains that you can use within your levels. Like the foundation of the level or even entire open world game area. Especially with this second pack, the maps are much bigger, so it will offer a lot more game space.

Late to the party? No worries! There’ll be enough copies of it on marketplace for everyone!

As LeamDelaney said, this will give you some natural landscapes plus some rocks and other stuff so you would very easily have a nice environment for your project.

Working on a bunch of new rocks for landscape 05.

Was working on a shader for the dry rocks and testing them.
(A few more pieces and landscape 05 will be complete).

Hey do you have an ETA for a possible release or atleast a good guess?

Hi,

Let me lay down the schedule for you.

High poly for 5 more rocks is done. They’re gonna be baked and ported to engine for landscape 05 (which should take ~1 day). DONE
They may be also retextured for landscape 03 as well (Unsure about this because it’d require some rework to the existing setup there as well). DONE
Some basic level design work should be done on landscape 05 with the rocks for showcase purposes (~2-3 days)
Landscape 05 needs some slight improvements in the material (~1 day). DONE
Need to look into the possibility of adding water puddles proceduraly in the landscape 04 material (if possible, ~1 day)
Need to create some few pieces for landscape 01 and 02 as well (I wouldn’t go crazy about these two because they’re not the type of terrain that’d need many things on them. ~1-2 days).
I have already taken care of organization and the project is all cleaned up so just a final polish is needed here and there (~1 day).
Probably some dust particles for landscape 05 (~1 day). DONE
Then hopefully need to learn sequencer and do some videos if possible before submitting (I’m not sure how long this would probably take).

A delay on my calculation is expected because of the daily life errands.

Don’t forget to follow the progress on the trello!

Some updates to the lava rocks.

Hey guys!

Got 2 news for you!

1st. I’ve been working on reducing the seam between meshes and terrain on landscape 05.
4K shots, view in high res.

2nd. The AAA Grass Material package is now a part of Affordable Landscapes 2 as a bonus! Anybody who purchases AL2 will have the grass package for free! If you’re not familiar with it, here’s the link: http://goo.gl/EaD1qN

Hey, that’s a nice way to sweeten that deal!

The rocks are looking great, and nice bonus with the grass pack! =)

Thanks man!

Created more rocks and an overview scene.
4K shots.

Sadly, the particles don’t really show in a screenshot. Will do a video on them later.

Testing some randomly placed dust in AL2.

The assets work great!

A before and after comparison of throwing some assets together on the empty landscape in a few seconds.

Overall I’m very happy with everything and we’re gonna submit the package in a few days now.

That material looks decent! though you might want improve the blending between those dark pebbles and light dirt!

What is the price going to be, and can they be purchased separately, I see you are breaking up the other Affordable landscape pack now and selling them separately. No one likes to pay for more than they need

Thanks for the feedback. Does this look any better?

We don’t have plans to sell the maps individually at the moment. The price is going to be between 100-150 and we haven’t made a final decision on that yet. However, from our point of view the price range is absolutely reasonable when comparing the price, quality and the amount of work we’ve put into this with other landscape packages.

Uploading the package for Epic.
I have started working on the documentation now. Did a lot of search to find a good solution. I have came down to Google Slides for that. I went ahead and did a small test. Please let me know if this works for you!

Thanks.

Edit: Slide resolution is 4K. Please let me know if that works for you as well or if you’re more comfortable with 1920x1080.

I love that sand environment. Good luck with your submission! =)

Way better blending!

Now I gotta pull you up here. There were also no plans to sell the other Affordable Landscapes pack individually, but now they are being sold individually despite this, which could lead to some remorse from people who purchased that. 100-150 is reasonable for what circumstance? If you want one landscape material from five it’s certainly not.

Does the price suffer any inflation from bonus assets advertised, like Kite Demo rocks? And what other landscape packs in particular are you comparing with for effort, quality and price.

I’m only pointing these things out because I see a lot of high priced assets creeping onto the MP that force the buyer to pay a lot more for more than they need.
