All the lava rocks!
Credits go to Epic for the last 3 rocks (the meshes).
OP Updated!
Landscape 9 | Update 4 - WIP - Early screens!
That sand is looking good! =)
Thanks!
Changed the lighting and did some more work on the materials.

Did I see you post some where (sorry can’t find it now) that some of these will auto texture when dropped on a terrain and some won’t, is it possible to get a wee list. I’d like to ask too or maybe I should go over the the over package to ask. BUT to save time you your running about how do I get ALS 1 to update I can’t seem to find a re-download button and I seem to have only what I hot when I brought it
Hi,
It was regarding the slopes.
For AL1, remove the content from your vault and download again.
More WIP screens.
Looking good. Does this scene have tessellation applied yet? Can’t tell from the screens.
Yes, but not really visible on the sand unless you’re very close.
Did an alternate lighting.
This pack is beautiful, I’m really excited to see it develop!
I had a few questions I hoped you could share some light on,
Do you consider this VR ready? Would a suitable setup be capable of rendering this resolution landscape?
Are these developed using engine tools … i.e could I post-edit the terrain to allow for custom height areas (I’d plan to create custom flat areas for gameplay dotted throughout) - or could I achieve this in a 3D package for example?
I am currently exploring the prospect of an open world game, could environments be linked to create a realistic “world” or would I be able to post-edit and author a way to combine them? Would you even recommend that with this pack?
Cheers for reading,
Peace x
Hello,
We didn’t test this on VR. We’re only recommending Windows.
You can edit the landscapes using the UE4 sculpt tools.
The landscapes can’t be merged with each other.
Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, with the tessellation tools you have implemented I could potentially limit the higher tesselation bounds to limit the poly counts for VR though? Hypothetically this could work?
Also if landscape editing is fully supported, as well as you mentioning vertex painting / editing of the ground textures I could also attempt to create some form of “flow”
Luckily in the game I am considering the player is locked to specific locations meaning they couldnt “pass” the seams, or ever see them infact, “merging” or areas which I author that do seem to blend between landscapes could essentially be far enough away that the player wont question the seam issues that may occur…
If these ideas are possible, I think you may have another sale!
You can edit the landscape with these sculpt tools:
Creating a flow form depends on your own skill and how you use the sculpt tools.
And you can paint the landscape with paint tool:
https://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Engine/Landscape/QuickStart/5/
You don’t need to do additional work, those are already setup so you just paint.
Merging landscapes even with the seams being there is still not a good idea. It’s just very expensive to have more than 1 of these landscapes in 1 level. However, if you intend to only have something in the backgrounds so the level looks larger, you can do that with the background meshes that are included in the package.
Thank you for the links to the tools, I’ve used them in the past, do you have background meshes for each type of environment? I’d plan to maybe create the illusion of a larger world using a different set of the background meshes you mention in each direction (N E S W - like a game of thrones world but smaller).
I mis-communicated what I meant by merging, I put them in quotes because of course, I would not plan on welding them together or merging their meshes in engine into a single draw call constantly loading all that info nonono! But I do require the illusion that the world you are in spans multiple landscapes, using level streaming to actually traverse each time the player picks to move in a direction (moving a kilometre per move for example) if the background meshes allow that form of illusion, i’m in!
Please look at pages 45 to 47.
But keep in mind you can’t actually go walk on the background meshes.
Many many thanks!
As a buyer of IAL-1, I’m a bit disappointed in the logic here. Judging from the images, 2 looks better. I was under the impression I was getting all of your landscape works when I bought 1 “Landscapes as a service”. Now I have to buy ANOTHER $150 dollar pack to get the landscapes that benefit from what you learned doing the first pack? I think people who bought the first pack should get a serious break on the price for V2.
@RennJan, Your welcome.
@, I understand your concern there but anybody who bought AL1 is still going to receive free landscapes and we’re not charging anything for those. AL2 is entirely a separate thing.
I agree with @, When someone buys something called “Infinite affordable landscapes” ppl assume the landscapes u make in the future will be in the pack. Not that as soon as you learn something new they’ll be a new 150$ price tag slapped on it.
Description of infinite affordable landscapes:
“Landscapes as a service! This package is receiving constant monthly updates and fixes as long as Epic lives (long live Epic!) as well as receiving one free landscape per month based on community votes for a duration of two years.”
When I read that I assumed we would get your best work for the next two years and because of that I bought it when I didn’t need it yet to help support. I now own a lesser product than your capable of making, and have to pay a second time for what I originally wanted. I’m not disputing the value of either one, just feels off. I doubt epic could give deals only to al1 owners, but it would be nice.
Anyways I’ve said my piece, the new landscapes look great and I’m hoping for a big sale price in the future haha
We intend to continue supporting AL1 with additional landscapes. You will continue to receive what you paid for with AL1 for the forseeable future. We are genuinely thankful to you for your support and honestly do not want to let you down with the quality of work that we pass on to you. However, this does not mean that we disqualify ourselves from offering multiple pricing tiers for new Landscapes packages. We’re planning many more landscapes for AL1 and are steadfast in your promise to continue our support of it.
