Advice

Hello,

My name is Tim, and I mentor a group of 118 boys during the school year to help keep them out of trouble and on top of their classes. This summer I’m teaming up with a local church to provide a summer camp for the boys and girls of a low income neighborhood. We were graciously donated 15 gaming laptops from MSI and a citizen in the community so that I can teach the kids (12-18 years old) the basics of game design and development. I’m going to take them through the whole process of pre-visualization, the pitch, design and development. My hope is that when they leave the camp now they have not only a working knowledge of game making, but they will also leave with their very own mini development team with kids their age in the neighborhood.

We will be making a mini sidescrolling game from scratch. What I would like to know from you guys, is what would be the best method of downloading Unreal Engine 4 onto each laptop? Is there another way to install an engine without having to go through the Launcher? The reason I ask is because the church that the camp will take place at has dreadfully slow internet, and it will take an eternity to download Unreal Engine 4 onto each laptop.

Anyways, thank you for your time. And mods if this is the wrong section please feel free to move this or delete the post.

Thanks allot, that makes sense.

They gave a 10 percent discount. We tried to get a grant to help, considering I’ll be fitting physics and math lessons into the lesson plans, but unfortunately we couldn’t find a grant that fit what we were trying to do. Luckily a member from the church has bought bulk equipment from MSI before and he bought all 15 laptops out of his own pocket. We all really care about the kids in these areas, and want to expose them to things they generally don’t get to due to socioeconomics.

Just an update on this, I found that the editor works perfectly fine without installing through the launcher.
