Good day all!
So I have been working on a Project within UE4 for approximately 4 months putting in over 16hrs every day nearly since beginning. To give you some background, I have been playing around and learning UE4 for roughly a year before I felt comfortable enough to start working on a game I’ve had in my head for years.
I am sure that my idea and concept would be well received and I want nothing more than to make my game a reality, however… the game concept is huge in terms of scale.
I expect to go down early access route with modular releases so there isn’t a necessity to release finalised product with all content. By nature of the design the game would be added to as an ongoing project (think MMO stlye).
My real problem is that I am reaching a point where I have done a lot of the foundation work by use of Blueprints (I don’t do C++ unfortunately) but have 0 content in which to make use of the game code. For example… crafting/building? But I have no assets created to put into the game to actually use these features.
Does anyone have advice on how to approach taking the concept from one guy in his bedroom to a team?
I’ve thought about kickstarters and such but that’s a hard approach and not likely to succeed especially with no experience in Game Dev before or any content to even show screenshots of. I figured I could make content and show off good WIP screenshots to drum up interest and then maybe I could go down the route of kickstarters, early access so on…
My other concern is giving out my concept and ideas for others to steal. This may be ignorant and possibly arrogant I know however I want to develop games that aren’t copy/paste of existing. I love to make new things and focus on making great gameplay. As such I’d hate for someone else to see my idea and do it before me. Again, I know that may seem stupid, cocky, ridiculous but I hope you can understand my concern.
Does anyone have great advice on how to expand to a team bearing in mind I can’t pay money but I would love to be able to become a game dev studio and well, loyalty is rewarded! (Provided I can make it successful… and I feel confident in my ability that I could do it!)
Thanks for any feedback and advice!
