Advice needed for better performance when using many meshes

Hello there!

I need some advice for UE4.
When I am creating environments in which there’s around 500 actors of which there’s 300 meshes for example, the performance decreases a lot. Means, I’m only getting 20-30fps. Is that normal?

When creating a game, there’s way more meshes to be used, but still many people do have a very very good performance. Are there special settings if I want to import meshes from Quixel Bridge for example? Or when importing Asset Packs from the Epic Games Store?

The specs of my computer:
Windows 10 64bit
Ryzen 7 3800x
RTX 2080ti MSI Gaming X Trio
32GB 3200MHz RAM
500GB SSD
3TB HDD

Any help is appreciated, since I’m currently working on a game and I fear that the performance will be hella bad as soon as I get to the environment creation.

It shouldn’t be anywhere near that bad. I’d look at two areas

  1. How many polys are those meshes?

  2. What are the other 200 actors?

After that, then there’s instancing, of course, but take a look at 1 and 2 first.
