Hi there,
I want to release a demo version of a game that´s also available as a full version. As the full version has achievements on other platforms (Playstation and Xbox) I read that they are also required in the epic store version of the game. Now is my question if I have to include the achievements in the demo as well or should they just be unlockable in the full version (like on playstation for example)?
And if they are not required: Do I have to login the player at all in the demo if I just need it for the achievements?
Thank you,
Benjamin
@SparklingB Great question. Yes, our policy applies to demos, regardless if the full version includes them or not. So if the demo has achievements on other PC storefronts, you’ll need to support them on Epic Games Store as well.
I think this policy is not the smartest move of demanding feature equality.
We have for example several older games we won’t release on Epic Game store simple because the engine used is in one case UE4.11. We won’t upgrade the engine to 4.27 or even 5 and rerunn all QA just to release it on Epic Game Store. Because of this we will pass and due to those policies “we want everything others have” we might pass to release on EGS at all.
@PolygonArt_WEN We understand this might be additional work for our partners but ultimately this policy is meant to enhance your users’ experience. We can make exceptions to this policy in special cases, especially where there are technical limitations. We also want to stress this is only for other PC storefronts; our achievements requirement would not apply if you’ve only launched on consoles thus far.
