Accessing bools in another class

This is probably super simple and I’m over looking something. I have a custom anim notify for my footsteps. I want to add more versatility by also having it work for the hands, while climbing. In the notify class I have a bool bIsHands, this is exposed in the editor so I can switch on the fly. The code for the line trace is in the character controller. How do I access bIsClimbing to see if it’s true or not in the character controller so I can change the linetrace from the feet to the hands? This is what I have in the character controller
