I’ve had the same error as many people, a crash of the Epic Games launcher. Coincidentally, it happened today, when the Odyssey plugin was announced. After trying to install the plugin, the crash occurred, but the problem isn’t with the plugin; perhaps it was due to the global internet outage, and it got stuck.
I posted the following in a thread about it. To avoid repeating myself in all the threads, I’ve created this post so you can try it out:
I think I’ve found the solution, at least in my case for now, because when I saw the announcement of the Odyssey plugin, I decided to download it, but it wouldn’t download, from then on the launcher started to crash. Now, after 5 hours, as soon as I entered the launcher, in the Unreal Engine tab, under Downloads, I noticed that I had the Odyssey plugin download queued. I canceled the download, and the launcher no longer crashes.
Thank you for reaching out for support! I understand that the Epic Games Launcher is crashing when attempting to download a plugin. I reached out to the appropriate resources for this issue, and it seems a fix was pushed out on Friday, June 13th.
With that being said, if you’re still having issues, I want to recommend troubleshooting the Epic Games Launcher per this article. If those don’t work, you can gather logs for us using this article.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!
I was able to install Odyssey, and can use it for simple texture painting occasionally. But it is incredibly buggy. Sometimes I open a texture, which automatically opens the Odyssey texture editor and Unreal crashes immediately. Removing the plugin is the only fix. It’s a shame since being able to edit textures in Engine is really nice. I hope they fix it.
