In this test:
-Tried importing assets for the first time (from Magicka Voxel - total number around 30-40)
-Tried using a single material as the color palette for all assets
-Tried using Creative devices to add small gameplay elements (spawn pad, billboards, teleporter)
-Tried Blocking volumes
-Tried making my own animated water material
Very cool, how did you make text that appear near the characters?
Use the billboard device in creative edit
This project is based on an old game that I made in 2014. I do want to recreate it fully one day in Creative/UEFN, potentially expand it if I have the right toolset (need to be able to do turn-based battles for that). Posting here the original projects for reference on what I want to recreate:
Original:
Created in 2 weeks, completely offline, using Project Spark.
Detailed preview:
When things get out of hand. A wacky preview about a wacky game…docx (1.4 MB)
Full gameplay:
Recreation attempt 1:
Started rebuilding the project from scratch in Unity. I stopped working on it because of another project came up (was 2 months before knowing about Fortnite Creative)
Recreation attempt 2:
TBD. I want to recreate it using Fortnite assets and the Fortnite art style, but I have to recreate all 16 characters from it, ideally close to what they looked like in the original (medieval but with futuristic elements).
-Would love if we had some sort of character editor, like Maya customization that allowed us to make our own Fortnite characters for our games. Customization is key, with allowing us to change colors on clothing, alter clothing and change facial features/hair.
-Would love a dialogue interface that supports avatars (so I can take a photo of the characters from above, and use them as avatars like the original.
-Would love more animations for the character devices and more memory in general to place more characters down (each character is very expensive in Creative and I can’t do as many as I did in the original). Would love to connect levels together so memory is not a concern, so I can split interiors from exterior spaces.
-Would love more control over text appearing on screen. Maybe a typewriter effect and the ability to add custom fonts would go long way.
-Finally, controlling the player camera. Allowing the POV to change will allow us to make completely new games and applies to so many cases. Even allowing control over the player controls and their visibility.
