My current computer is ancient and I’ve wanted to be able to use UE4. I wanted to build a pc in order to do just that. I’m also interested in art, so I wanted a system that could handle programs like photoshop and zbrush. I’ve looked around for a couple days and so far I’ve come up with this.
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor ($69.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-HD2 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($36.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 380 2GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($163.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Zalman Z5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($27.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $428.80

Is there a better build available and would the system be bottlenecked? The video card seems much better than everything else. Also, I was thinking of swapping the Athlon for an AMD FX-6300 since it has 2 extra cores, but is there much difference? Thanks for reading.
Hey! Just wanted to say that I do have a machine with a HD 7850 1GB and a FX6300 with 8gb RAM and it runs it like butter, but what I would recommend for you is possibly going with a Pentium G3258 if you are fine with a dual core because you can get a nice quad or hexacore later, or you can wait for AMD’s Zen architecture. For AMD CPUs, they are quite outdated these days if you are doing tasks that require single core performance. Also, I would recommend getting an SSD for unreal if you can. It can take up to 1.5 minutes to open unreal. RAM is okay, but you can upgrade later! Cheers, hope your build is successful, if you need anything, PM me!
It has been awhile since I have dug deep into building a system, but I seem to remember that it would be better to have 2 4Gb sticks of ram instead of 1 8Gb.
Other than that, it seems reasonable for the price.
i own a pc store there isn’t a day where i don’t build a pc that’s a great budget built and yeeeeeeeees go for the AMD FX-6300 if you can .
about the r9 380 you have to ask first one of the PCs i built for a costumer had the r9 380 and for the sake of it i wanted to test its performance in UE4 i couldn’t do much it crashed on me , then i searched and found most people have complains with this card! they say it has driver issues with UE4 editor now ask around here if this was fixed other than that it will perform well with the engine, you can’t go wrong with it! for a tight budget it’s the best option and much weaker GPUs run UE4 editor fine.
about Rams ( dual channel vs single channel) does not have that big of impact on performance even if dual channel is theoretically faster go with the one stick option once you dig deep with the UE4 you will eventually upgrade to 16gb later so dual channel could Waite for now .
Thanks for the suggestion, I recieved several responses saying that the r9 380 is flawed when it comes to Unreal, so I think I would lean towards Geforce 960 or 950. I guess I’ll have to wait until Black Friday and/or Cyber monday
