Hey guys i’m relatively new to UE4, I’m doing my best to get on the right foot here when it comes to asset creation.
I’m learning to prepare and develop 3d models for use in UE4. With the goal of working as a 3d modeller in this industry and selling assets on the market place.
I have a few inquiries
As customers:
-
Would you prefer only the optimized game models in an asset pack, or would it be better to also include the full high poly model in it as well (Porting existing assets from maya optimized for mental and vray) in case its needed for cinematics.
-
Generally what kind of packs do you buy. I understand individual assets are usually worthless but rather assets are bought in a set. Is it better for me to model
a. A set of assets corresponding to a type of object ( eg. cornice packs, chair packs, headphone packs)
b. A set of assets corresponding to a theme (eg. gothic kitchen, japanese dining, peruvian flora, european bedrooms)
c. A set of assets corresponding to a genre (Contempoary weapons, cyberpunk gadgets, magical potions, fantasy assortments, burlesque dancer gear) -
Is there a pricing policy that needs conformity, or should prices be based on market comparison in relation to the quality of my meshes.
-
Is there a particular format to follow with the show room? Or would a basic lighting and a beauty shot of my assets prove suffice.
-
When creating assets should I keep maps at the highest resolution they have been developed in ( I usually make texture maps in 4k) Or would it be better to keep the size as low as possible while maintaining quality.
Appreciate any advice on this, I really love Unreal Engine, have played Epic Games’s Unreal Tournament as a kid. This is a place i’d like to get into and perform faithfully to its community!
~Cheers!
