Hi,
Last year I started to experiment with some of Unreal Engine 5’s latest features and decided to try and make a RTS Castle Building game with what I had learnt. The Game features proceduraly generated maps which the player can create themselves, map editing, castle building and enemy factions all set on a disc world like environment. I wanted the game to have the charm of a Sensible Software title and the rts gameplay of the original Settlers. There is still a long way to go but I think its on track in a lot of areas.
Ive started to develope the game some more, fix some bugs and I hope get the game ready for publishing early next year. Being a solo developer with zero budget does make that a challange. Regardless of success in such a competitive environment Ive learnt a lot about the new engine and look forward to seeing how it develops over the coming year.
The Game Features the following
- 8 Enemy Factions + Viking Raiders
- Custom Map Creation Tool on Main Menu
- Epic and Fast Game Modes
- Range of Farming Options
- Range of Planting Options such as trees etc
- Range of Castle Parts including Moats and Towers
- Range of Mines includin open cast and shaft Mines
- Unit Inventory system with armour, sword, shield, helmet rating system for fights
- Dynamic day night cycle
- Loading and saving system
- Weapon crafting
- Range of building such as wells, forge, blacksmith, goldsmith, kitchens etc
The game is coming together well and I hope to expand the building options available, improve the enemy faction ai and generaly give it a bit of polish. I think it should make for a fun rts medieval castle building game.
A video of the game can be found here.
