5.5 "Error: [Failure] Import Failed" when importing animations from FBX

Upon reimporting animations nothing happens besides a small hitch and the animation remains unchanged, looking in the output log I found an error “[Failure] Import Failed”. Nothing about my project has changed between now and when I last imported animations, besides updating the engine from 5.44 to 5.5.

This happens when reimporting, reimporting with a new file and when importing completely new animations. I’ve tried validating the Unreal Engine install and restarting the machine to no avail. The FBX file is over 40mb so it isn’t a case of the animations not exporting from blender in the first place, I’ve been using this export/import workflow and settings in UE5 since it was available, I don’t think this is user error but a new glitch of some sort. Any help would be appreciated as I’m effectively waiting for an update until I can continue using the engine.

Edit: Upon further investigation, I’ve found that Unreal is importing FBX animations with the wrong names, any ideas why?

That should be fixed in the 5.5.2 version

Hi, is there any chance there already is a commit we could cherry pick before 5.5.2 launches?

I believe it is this one https://github.com/EpicGames/UnrealEngine/commit/d307b1f04b648df5e7d2e569b70873ed7fa1d2ea
