5.3.1 terrain spikes after loading a 5.3 level in 5.3.1

Hi All,

I’m new here but can anyone explain what went wrong to my level when I updated to 5.3.1 and my level all of a sudden has these terrain spikes, and my river spline has disappeared as well?

The similar problem :

Similar to that. I’d say corrupted heightmap.

You could try re-importong the heightmap into the landscape by getting it off the saved copy of the non updated project you should have kept.

If you don’t have that, then at the very least try and export the heightmap out to see if something is savagable.

Afterall, it could be an editor issue rather than your actual file (but I kind of doubt it).

hmmmmm…

sounds like i might as well just build a new terrain, i didn’t get far enough to loose hours upon hours of time. Thanks for the tips

Ok,

so fast forward a year, and I am getting exactly the same issue I had last year. I fixed it by simply deleting the whole landscape and remaking it. But this time round, I really don’t want to do that every time I hit this bug that comes out of absolutely nowhere!!

So I have already just tried exporting the heightmap and texture maps, and then reimporting them, but it doesn’t cause this weird thing to go away:

If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!!

Do you have grass foliage/meshes in there?

The landscape is the grass texture you see under it in theory, so it shouldnt be the same issue you had before…

MostHost, thanks for your suggestion!!!

I went into the grass texture, rather than looking into the landscape itself and simply turned off the movement dynamics of the grass, and its solved the issue. Personally I don’t care about moving foliage, so its not a big deal to me. I had a similar issue with trees in UE5 a while back where the swaying movement of them causes them to deform and ‘bounce’ up and down, which is why I already have the tree movement in this level turned off already.

Glad you sorted it.

If trying to fix movement, make sure Nanite is not involved.
