5.1.1 falling through the floor in a new and exciting way

Hi all! Just switched from 5.1 to 5.1.1 and suddenly my character is falling through the floor. I would do the usually check player start point, etc, but that doesnt apply here. my player is falling through the floor while i am in editor mode. the second i start the simulation, i am standing right where i am supposed to be. i stop the simulation and i am falling through the floor again. the fact that i am falling means it is absolutely impossible to do anything in editor mode. anyone have any clues? i would really rather not have to rebuild this game from scratch…

after a little more experimenting: can not go back to 5.1 because 5.1.1 thinks it is the same version. same thing happens with new file created in 5.1.1. i am falling and i can’t get up, but the second i hit simulate i stop. can’t edit though. anybody got a parachute? this is kind of making me dizzy

I suggest you move the starting location up a bit from the floor to see if it helps. Also verify that the collision on all meshes work.

unfortunately this does not work. i am falling in the editor, which is not effected by the starting location. i turn unreal on and start falling, then when i hit play simulation, it stops and goes to the starting location. best explanation is that instead of flying around in editor, gravity is turned on while i am in the editor, so i can’t stay still long enough to change anything at all.

So you are saying that when you launch the engine the character starts to fall, even though you are not simulating, or using the Standalone game window?

yes, and it happens with all my existing game files as well as newly created templates

This is very strange. I suggest you try to verify the Unreal Engine files through the Epic Games Launcher.

this is what it is doing. yes, very strange. verifying engine as we speak… …and it turns out that verification did not help. the problem has not gone away/been solved.

I did not find an exact cause, but after shutting down the machine, waiting a couple of hours and restarting, the problem seems to have fixed itself. it makes me wonder if there might have been a driver conflict or something that hung in windows that was causing it.

Super weird… Well I hope it isn’t something recurring.

I had exactly the same issue! Just went away after a day…

I ended up coming to the conclusion that this was a glitch with simulation. I had turned on simulation so that i could see something that i was doing with a metahuman, which was fine initially, but created this problem for a bit. if you see this, try turning off simulation.

Hi there, I’m having a similar problem. Could you please tell me where you turn on and off simulation?

top of screen, hit the 3 dots menu for play in editor and check what mode it is in. if you are seeing the play sign with a gear, you are in simulation mode. default hot key for it is alt s, I think.
