5.0 project migrated to 5.1 has considerably worse performance.

For some unknown reason. Both are using the exact same project settings (besides 5.1 requiring sm6 and my 5.0 project using sm5), both using nanite and virtual shadow maps, no global illumination.

The project is very barebones in that it’s a test map environment with no foliage.

5.1 project has something along the lines of a -20 to -30fps difference. Anyone else having this experience? How do I fix this?

Yep. Tried to fix it with several settings even from windows. Nothing worked well. Best way to handle it is not to update to 5.1 at this time. Sadly…

■■■■, well at least I’m not alone haha. It makes no sense, 5.1 was supposed to make everything more performant??

I had this. If I opened the original or a copy ( of a 5.0 project with 5.1 ), like for like performance was about half the frame rate.

The solution I found was

. Make a new clean project 5.1
. Migrate everything to that project.

I’m guessing there’s some project level setting that helps 5.1 work better by default, but it doesn’t get injected correctly with converted projects.

Migrate from the 5.0 project, correct?

Yes. I basically just selected everything in the content folder, right click and migrate.

Thinking of it now, maybe it’s easier to go one folder up and just right click the content folder, but that’s not what I did.

Also, having done this. When you open the project, re-add the first or third person content again, if you’re using it. That’s because the new input method can more easily be copied across to your character that way.

It does, in the end. Lumen is using a much tighter surface cache, and you’re getting this with the same performance, once you’ve fixed this issue.

Got it. Attempting now. Thanks

Be interested to hear…

Are you using landscape? I noticed there’s significant lag, but only when you move around; especially when using high resolution landscapes… I had zero issues in 5.0

It’s not clear who you’re asking? Me, no, can’t afford landscape, I’d rather use the budget on something else…

No landscape.

Also, I tried migrating and it gave me an error about video memory or something and exited.
Tried manually copying the content folder and now everything is all textureless and my geometry collections are invisible and nothing works.

So, no joy?

Not yet. Gonna try to copy to a thirdpersontemplate and then fix everything.

When you do the migrate, make sure you don’t have the destination project open…

Yep, nothing is open except the 5.0 project. It takes a while, then lags and says something about video memory and then exits.

Very odd…

Yeah… I might be stuck. Manually migrating this is a nightmare.

Ok, last attempt.

. Exit everything, only have windows running
. Start only the 5.0
. Get above the content folder and right click it to migrate

?..

Yeah gonna try that and also migrate from the 5.1 project to a clean 5.1 and see if it works
