4.8p1 experimental feature BUG

First I enable the experimental feature:enable Metal\High-end mobile rendering preview in the editor preferences, then I toggle it on in the settings->preview rendering level->High-end mobile\Metal,at this time,if I move the view with the mouse the CPU will increase rapidly to 80% or more and thhen the editor crashes(sometimes without the move it crashes either).

Also,I found that maybe 4.8p1 still does not support GPU particles for metal?Since that I did not see GPU sprites being rendered in Metal preview. And when in 4.7,there’s a forum saying it should be in 4.8.Thanks!

Hi -

I was unable to reproduce the crash you are experiencing internally, if you can please post the crash log file which can be found here:

C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue

and if you could also post your Machine ID which appears in the Crash Reporter.

As far as the GPU Particles go can you link me the actual Forum post?

Thank You

Thanks!

They said it would be available for ios-metal in 4.8.

However,I cannot find that file in that location.
I can describe it briefly, after I toggle the setting on,the editor is frozen and my RAM will increase sharply from 30% to 70% and then the crash window appears like below:

Hi -

Can you let me know if you are experiencing this crash in a Basic Project with No Starter Content? If you are using your own map can you let me know exactly what types of assets you are using in the map?

Unfortunately the GPU Particles in 4.8 were punted due to some performance related issues which could not be resolved to a stable point before 4.8 release. The Issue is still open and we are close to a solution but we want to make sure that it is in fact the best and correct solution for users.

Thank You

Thanks!I updated the UE to 4.8 preview2 and didn’t find that issue! However, the particles are totally broken in the High-end mobile\Metal preview, most of my particles become green and rather werid.Hope you guys can soon in 4.8 release solve the problem and make the gpu particles become available on metal.Thank you again.

Hi -

Thank you for your report. I was able to find the issue with particle in Mobile Metal Preview and have entered a report, for reference UE-15601, I will keep you informed as we work on a solution.
