[4.8.2] Blueprint editor invisible

Since a few days UE4 often opens invisible windows I can’t see and use. Here’s a video how this looks like:

Even a restart of the editor doesn’t help. The only way to make such windows visible again is to right click on the mini view in the windows taskbar, chose move and then dragging them back into the screen where they look like this:

Pressing ‘maximize’ restores the window again but at the next start I got the same problem.

Hi ,

Thank you for the report. We have assigned one of our technicians to investigate your issue and they may post here with additional questions or comments.

Could you also include your Dxdiag (system specs).

  • Windows: Go to the Start menu and type ‘dxdiag’ into the search bar. Open the file and then click ‘Save All Information’. Post that text file here.

  • Mac: Go to the Apple menu and click ‘About This Mac’.

Hello ,

I tried to reproduce this issue on our end. I was unable to do so. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. Have you made any changes to the engine.ini folders?
  3. Have you made any changes to the Project/Editor settings?
  4. Does this only occur when you right click and choose “Edit” for a blueprint?
  5. Have you tried verifying your engine?

Hi Rudy,

1.) Yes
2.) No
3.) No
4.) No
5.) No

DXDiag: Download

After a few restarts, it seems ok now. For some reason the editor rembered the last windows size but set this value to 0 or something. This happens every few restarts. Maybe the (first) editor window should just open in maximized state.

Hello ,

I was unable to reproduce this issue on our end. However, re-sizing the window and then restarting the editor should resolve the issue. If you would like for your editor to start in fullscreen you can set this option by navigating to the EditorPerProjectUserSettings.ini file. You will then want to open this in a notepad and set InitiallyMaximized=True. This method is project specific. I hope that this information helps.

Default path: C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\Unreal Projects\YourProjectName\Saved\Config\Windows

Make it a great day

I get this on occasion as well but for me its not a UE4 thing its because i use 5 monitors and frequently either switch them around and or remove some (its a desktop but it travels with me and i don’t always feel like setting the whole system up if I’m just going to be on the web etc.) as stated above however if you get the window back on screen (as you have figured out how), resize the window (drag the corners etc. maximizing will NOT work as the original window size is not modified), shut down the program in a friendly manor (CTRL+ALT+DEL killing also likely will not allow the os to save the settings etc.) apon reopening it should all be resolved…

as a side note your not using Lucid Virtu MVP (GPU Management) are you?

Many thanks, that should fix it in my case.
