If I press Launch (Unreal Engine 4.2.1) and wait for the editor to launch and then choose my project it works fine.
If I instead go to Library and choose My Projects > ProjectName > Open … it opens a text file like this one:
Sorry to hear you are having problems. What happens if you try to open the project by double clicking on the .uproject file directly. Also, have you changed the default app for .uprojects at all? Thanks.
We found an issue where if the user had selected an alternative default app to open .uprojects, the Launcher would not override this. We have a fix for this coming out in the next update. In the short term, you could try setting the .uproject association yourself by right clicking a .uproject file in windows explorer, select “Open with …,” “choose default program…”, and selecting Unreal Engine from the list. Could you let me know if Unreal Engine does not appear in the list, as this could indicate something else has gone wrong.
I was getting this on my laptop, and when I clicked the .uproject it also opened the text file. I changed my computer and it doesn’t happen on the new one for the same projects.
The Open With … Unreal Engine association works fine.
But from the launcher, both on my laptop (no more using that for UE4) and on my new machine, I get the text file opening.
I can press the Launch UE4.2 then open my project when it exposes the projects panel, just not from the Library. At work I don’t get this problem.
Nice to hear there’s an upcoming fix.
[Edit – hey hey, having done your Open With … tip, the Launcher now behaves itself too!]
