Unreal Engine 4.18 project upgrade fails to rebuild a project’s modules after installing Visual Studio 2017 with a pre-existing VS 2013 and VS 2015 Update 3 installation.
Uninstalling Visual Studio 2017 and a reboot does not fix the issues.
Re-installing Visual Studio 2017 does not fix the issue.
Manual rebuild in Visual Studio 2015 or 2017 does not work either.
Completely removing all Visual Studio installations, rebooting, then re-installing only Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 fixed my issue on Windows 10 Professional 1703 64-Bit.
I think it’s wrong. 2017 came out on March 7th, 2017 while UE4.15 came out Feb 15th, 2017. I still haven’t used 2017. I couldn’t get my game to compile with 2017 even the current engine version. (4.18)
I only have Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 installed and it works with 4.16 - 4.18 without issues. I haven’t tried any older engine versions in a while. I’d install VS2015 Update 3 first with a blank project and try it. If it doesn’t work, you can always try 2017.
I’m pretty sure those docs were recently changed. I’m not sure why it’s saying that now. If memory serves me correct, 2017 wasn’t used by too many people in 4.15 and 4.16. Maybe Epic want’s a more streamlined Visual Studio version support for troubleshooting purposes. I’ve had trouble with 2017.
If you’re installing for the first time, you have to custom install 2015 and add C++ tooling during install. I think it’s in the documentation. It’s a check box when you go to install.
