4.18 my project crashes at startup

This has happened to me before on 4.18 . Everything was working just fine and the next day i open up my project it just crashes . . wont even start . . this is the second time its happening . . I’ve searched for the solutions and people usually say there has to be something wrong with the current map . . i cut the map from directory and project opens up but then if i open any blueprint or asset it again crashes . . it wont let me open anything . .and if i take my bp’s from this project and use them in other projects they also crash . . what kinda error is this?? this is so depressing . . . i am so fed up . . please help . . here is the callstack and log file . .

I have searched for this access code error and most of the answers are about null pointers . .the thing is my project is Blueprints only . . now how am i suppose to debug it because the project wont let me do anything . . . it just crashes :frowning: . . Epic games help me solve my problem :frowning:

The first thing to try is to make a full safety copy of your project, then delete the Intermediate, Saved and Build folders. Basically delete everything from the project folder except Content, Config, Source and the .uproject file.

Then restart your project and see if it loads this time.

Hey vr_marco thnx for replying . . i just did what u said . . deleted the Intermediate, Saved and Build folders and started the project . . same thing happens . . project loads but if i open up any BP or asset it crashes again . . same call stack same log . .

By looking at the first error it may be that something may be wrong with one of your skeletal assets. Did you import any custom character recently? Can you try to delete them and see if that stops the crashes from happening?

Yes i had one skeletal mesh which i was using for prototyping my game . . and i deleted that mesh and launched again . . same thing . . project launches just fine but if i open any thing it just crashes . .
Could this be due to null pointers?? because according to other similar questions answer’s they say it is due to some null ptr . . . but in my project i almost never used an obj ref without checking is valid . .

the problem is very strange . . the project wasn’t launching at first but when i saw people suggesting to delete the startup map, which i did, and now project launches fine . . but i cnt open or edit anything , if i try to it just crashes . . giving me the same error Access violation - code c0000005 (first/second chance not available)

After you have removed the mesh you should also clean up Intermediate, Saved and Build. Then re-launch. It could also be that other meshes are causing the issue. Definitely one of your assets seems to be invalid.

I think it has to be something with 4.18 . . because i have the same assets(same skeletal assest for prototyping as well) and almost same logic in 4.16 and it just runs fine . .

Ok i did removed the mesh completely and deleted the folders and launched again . . Same thing again … . it crashed . . . i think you might be right, there must be an asset which is causing problems otherwise it doesn’t make sense . . i am going to dig up all my assets and see what i can find . . thnx for helping me thus far :slight_smile:
