Hi! I am actively developing game at the moment, so I often use the ctrl-z stuff, when making changes in my blueprints. But really fast I start having problems with undo. In the editor I see the following:
After I change something the edit menu looks the same, but I see the changes in Undo History.
But when I click on history item nothing changes and I saw the following icon in the right bottom corner of screen:
When I restart the editor it works for moment (maybe for half an hour or hour) but after that I encounter this error again. Maybe there is a method to increase the undo history?
It is occuring everywhere. It is very hard to reproduce… even I don’t easily can do that. In some days I work and everything is okay, some day the undo stops working. It is hard bug to find, I suppose. I just work with UE for above 2-3-4 hours and the bug happens. It is not CRITICAL, of course.
I work in 4.11.2 ,yes. I don’t remember that in 4.10, by the way.
What are the steps you took just before the last time this occurred? Are you pressing the undo button very quickly or does the speed the key is pressed not seem to matter?
I have the same trouble, sometimes it’s just after opening a blueprint when the blueprint editor is open (with another one of course).
I don’t think that the speed is the problem, but it’s often after 2 hours …
I have 4.11.2 too
what I mean by quickly is do you hit the button several times in a row within a very brief time period for this to occur or does it occur if you only press it once? For instance, if you create and delete a node then press ctrl+z once, do you see the error occur?
Yes, I understand, that is what I mean by quickly. I press it to undo severl actions. And if this error occurs then I will not be able to press the ctrl z once, I saw error. Only editor restart helps me.
Unfortunately I have not been able to reproduce this on my end. I am going to leave it open for a few days. If you find reproduction steps that consistently cause the error to occur, please post here and I’ll be happy to try again.
im having this issue a lot too, but in the level editor instead of for blueprints. cant find specific repro steps but undo breaks down and stop working pretty commonly for me.
Hi I’ve just got the same problem… and to be honest… I can’t tell youwhat to do to reproduce the thing on your side… Createing bleuprint… moving stuff in the editor… selecting stuff… and then,. oh the ctrl+z action dont work… Save the project. Re-open it and the ctrl+z action work now… well… strange.
I’m having the same issue. Here’s a simple repro, but it happens all the time. Basically, it seems like there are certain barriers for undo that I can’t control like “can’t undo after applying lighting” or “can’t undo after world load”. There are simply steps that the history isn’t tracking, it seems. Here’s my simple repro:
Select any geometry in your level (I selected a wall)
right-click in the world outliner and select “pilot” so it follows you around in the viewport (this is an odd thing to do, I know, but it’s an example of one of the many operations that don’t seem to be undoable).
exit from pilot after you’ve moved around.
Observe that you cannot undo to put the wall back where it was before piloting it. You have to manually move it back.
I’m on version 4.18.
Obviously, this is a very concerning issue. It’s unnerving since I experiment a lot and end up getting myself into bad states where I have to hook things back up after an undo barrier.
I was able to reproduce this issue you were experiencing and have logged a report for it here:
You can track the report’s status as the issue is reviewed by our development staff. Please be aware that this issue may not be prioritized or fixed soon.
Yr.3 mo’s old but still true, that ctrl-z doesn’t always work, which means I have to save far more often to just avoid catastrophe by not being able to UNDO at important steps or missteps.
Using 4.19.2, 5101sq terrain, rock texture,is this a continued thing haunting this engine ?
I get it all the time, and yes I"m careful to not press Ctrl-z too soon- is there a bug where if one does at some point do that, then the history is destroyed ?
Between undo problems and terrain fall thru’s beginning to wonder whats going on with this engine…these are severe things that can GUT game dev
