4.10 Auto detect quality mobile

Hello,

I just have a question.

I am taking my mobile game from 4.9 to 4.10. I love the new features that 4.10 supports for mobile.

My question is I understand there are settings low med high quality settings now that we can disable and turn on for low end devices. My question is I read that there is an auto feature where the game engine auto detects the best quality for the device.

So how does this work is what am asking? Do I just package the game normally for ETC1 and when it installs on each different device it will automatically change the material settings and shaders to low to high quality?

I really want this to work so any advice on how this actually works, and any more advice to get max performance would be great~

Thanks everyone!

Hello PanzerGamingStudios,

As you said the new Mobile Material Quality feature automatically detects your devices specs and then adjusts performance accordingly. This is typically done through materials. Older devices may not support fully Physically Based Rendering materials such as metal. The New Edge support High quality Materials such as reflections, roughness, metals, and normal maps. A material quality scaled down for a device such as the Galaxy S3, with the same scene, will not render specular reflections, variations in roughness, metals, normal maps and directional lighting.
