Hi.
For some reason, the datasmith installer for 3ds max 2022 does not work in my 3ds max. I ran the installer, uninstalled and installed again and nothing happens.
The installer runs and it says it is completed and installed, but when I go to File>Export in 3ds max 2022, there is no .datasmith file type to export to.
what am I missing?

No, that .dle file is not on my Plugin list…
Is this something I need to install manually since the installer is not installing it correctly?
That’s weird, if the plugin is installed correctly it should also be in the “Add or Remove Programs” window of Windows.
Can you verify you can indeed see the max plugin here ?

I do have that on my add/remove program list
If you uninstall it, remove the registry key using the following method and reinstall, do you have the udatasmith export format back ?
- go in the registry editor, use the Edit > Find tool and write down the name of the plugin as stated in the Apps and Feature / Remove programs management window of Windows. In the case of 3dsMax it will be Unreal Datasmith Exporter for 3ds Max. Press “Find Next”.
2.After a few seconds you will be presented with a list of Registry Keys. Select the associated Registry Key folder on the left and delete it.
To verify you have deleted the right Key, you can do step 1. again : if it doesnt find any entry after a few seconds, you’re good to go on that end.3.To be sure to clean everything correctly before installing again, you can also delete the UnrealDatasmithMax folder located in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins
So I did the following:
I uninstalled using Add/Remove, I ran the registry editor to look for “Unreal Datasmith Exporter for 3ds Max” and deleted any folder that appeared from the Find.
I checked the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins folder and made sure the Datasmith folder was not in there.
I re-installed and the export option did not appear. I checked my plugins list and the .dle was not in there as well.
EDIT: I think I figured it out.
After removing everything from my computer, I ran the installer again. After the installer was completed, I checked for the DatasmithMax2022.dle file. I found it here:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\Plugins
I realized that it was installing into the wrong folder. I took the .dle file and moved it here:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\stdplugs
Once I did that, the .udatasmith option appears on my export now and the .dle is in my Plugins list in 3ds max.
Everything works now!
